RESOLUTION ON THE THIRD ALL-AFRICA TRADE FAIR, KHARTOUM (SUDAN) 3 – 17 NOVEMBER 1980
The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Thirty- fourth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 6 to 15 February 1980,
Recalling Resolution CM/Res.664 (XXXI) adopted by the Council of Ministers of the OAU at its Thirty-first Ordinary Session in Khartoum, Sudan, on the Third All- Africa Trade Fair in July 1978;
Recalling the relevant resolutions adopted on the Fairs held in Nairobi and Algiers;
Taking Note of the report of the Secretary-General of the Organization of African Unity on the proceedings of the preparatory Committee of the Third All-Africa Trade Fair scheduled for Khartoum Sudan, from 3 to 17 November 1980;
Having heard the statement of the representative of the Democratic Republic of the Sudan on the preparations of the Fair;
Recognizing the important role played by Trade Fairs in strengthening and promoting Inter-African Trade;
CONGRATULATES the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Sudan for the arrangements and preparations to make the Third All-Africa Trade Fair a great triumph and reflection of African solidarity;
URGES all Member States of the Preparatory Committee to do their utmost to take an active part in the forthcoming meetings of the Committee the next of which will be held in Khartoum from 24 to 28 March 1980;
URGENTLY CALLS on all OAU Member States to make every effort towards the promotion of Inter-African Trade by participating massively in the Third All Africa Trade Fair and consequently to communicate to the host Government their intention to participate in the Fair in June 1980, at the latest;
RECOMMENDS that OAU Member States should not organize similar Fairs from 3 to 17 March, 1980 when the Khartoum Fair will be in progress so as to ensure the success of the latter;
REQUESTS the Advisory Committee on Administrative, Financial and Budgetary Matters to meet before the end of the current month to consider and approve the financial contribution of the OAU in the organization of the Fair and the construction of the OAU Pavilion in accordance with the practice established during the previous Fairs.
