RESOLUTION ON THE REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF 19 ON ASSISTANCE TO FRONTLINE STATES
The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Thirty- eighth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 22 to 28 February 1982,
Having considered the Report of the Committee of 19 as well as the Report of the Mission undertaken by the Sub-Committee of 19 to some Arab Countries, BADEA and ADB contained in Document CM/1186 (XXXVIII) to solicit assistance for the Frontline States,
Having considered again the proposals by the Chairman of Committee of 19 contained in Document PL/DEC/32(IV) 73.82 on the need to review the mandate of the Committee,
Recalling resolutions CM/Res.577 (XXIX), CM/Res.637 (XXXI), CM/Res.786
(XXXV) and decision AHG/Dec.112 (XVI) Res.1 of the OAU on the necessary assistance to be granted to the Frontline States,
Noting with satisfaction the readiness of the Arab countries and institutions visited to collaborate closely with the Committee of 19 in assisting the Frontline States,
Expressing concern over the grave and ever-increasing economic and social problems facing the Frontline States due to the persistent acts of aggression perpetrated by the racist regime of South Africa,
Recalling the solemn commitment of the OAU to find ways and means of obtaining from extra-African sources financial and material assistance for the Frontline States, victims of aggression by the Pretoria regime, because of their devotion to the African cause,
Appreciating the efforts hitherto exerted by the Committee of 19 and in particular its Chairman, Togo, to accomplish the Mission entrusted to it by the OAU,
Noting with satisfaction the accomplishments of the Frontline States in organizing, with other OAU Member States bordering South Africa joint effort to overcome the political and economic problems created by the racist South African regime particularly in the creation of SADCC:
NOTES WITH SATISFACTION the Report of the Committee of 19 as well as the Report of the Mission undertaken to some Arab Countries, BADEA and ADB to solicit assistance for the Frontline States;
EXPRESSES ITS GRATITUDE to the Arab Countries, and institutions visited by the Committee of 19 for their willingness to assist the Frontline States;
COMMENDS the Committee of 19 for successfully accomplishing the Mission entrusted to it;
CONSEQUENTLY RECOMMENDS the termination of the mandate of the Committee of 19 on assistance to Frontline States.
