RESOLUTION ON THE SECOND MEETING ON THE PUBLICATION OF THE FIRST AFRICAN PHARMACOPOEIA


The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Fortieth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 27 February to 5 March 1984,


Having considered the Report of the Secretary-General a.i. the Second Meeting for the Publication of the First African Pharmacopoeia,


Considering the importance of the utilization of medicinal plants and traditional medicines throughout Africa,


Noting the efforts being made by the OAU in collaboration with the UNIDO, WHO and other international donor agencies towards the establishment of the African Centre for Traditional Medicine - an activity which should logically follow the publication of the Pharmacopoeia:


  1. TAKES NOTE with satisfaction of the efforts which have been deployed by the OAU in the preparation and publication of the First African Pharmacopoeia;


  1. CONGRATULATES the team of African Experts who have been responsible for the drafting of the First African Pharmacopoeia;


  1. REQUESTS the Secretary-General to urge the WHO (Africa) to publish the First African Pharmacopoeia in all the OAU official languages and that the WHO should ensure the circulation of this document among Member States and other international agencies.
