RESOLUTION ON THE THIRTEENTH ORDINARY SESSION OF THE OAU LABOR COMMISSION



The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its Fifty- second Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 3 to 8 July 1990,


Having received and considered the report of the OAU Secretary-General on the Thirteenth Ordinary Session of the OAU Labor Commission (Doc. CM/1620 (LII)),


Aware of the potentials for development that exists in the informal and rural sectors as well as their job-creation and income-generating prospects as contained in report CM/1620 (LII),


Recalling Resolution CM/1159 (L) adopted by the Fiftieth Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers held in Addis Ababa, from 17 to 22 July 1989,


Recalling further Resolutions LC/Res.151 (XIII) Rev.1 on the improvement of the role of women in the informal sector and LC/Res.150 (XIII) Rev.1 on the African employment crisis, adopted by the Labor Commission,


Noting with satisfaction the positive results of the Thirteenth Ordinary Session of the OAU Labor Commission:


  1. TAKES NOTE of the report and resolutions of the Thirteenth Ordinary Session of the OAU Labor Commission;


  1. INVITES ALL Member States to ratify the African regional protocol and the amendments to the ILO Constitution if they have not yet done so;


  1. FURTHER INVITES the African Governments to include the activities of the operators of the rural sector in their national development plans and programs and to pay special attention to the informal sector;


  1. URGES Member States and the Secretary-General of the OAU to implement, in their respective areas, the decisions, resolutions and recommendations contained in the report;


  1. FURTHER REQUESTS the Secretary-General of the Organization of African Unity to report to the Fifty-third Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers on the results achieved in the implementation of the present resolution.
