RESOLUTION ON THE FOURTH ORDINARY SESSION OF THE OAU CONFERENCE OF AFRICAN MINISTERS OF HEALTH


The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its Fifty -fifth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 24 to 28 February 1992,


Having considered the report of the OAU Secretary-General on the Fourth Ordinary Session of the Conference of African Ministers of Health held in Mbabane, Swaziland, from 22 to 30 April 1991 (Document CM/1699 (LV)),


Mindful of the Declarations AHG/Dec.1 (XXIII), adopted in July 1987 on “Health as a Foundation for Development” and AHG/Dec.3 (XXVII) adopted in June 1991 on “The Current African Health Crisis”,


Conscious of the need to strengthen cooperation between Member States in the field of health to meet the growing challenges facing our continent,


Convinced that international cooperation in the field of socio-economic development can play an important role in enabling our continent to secure better health for all its people:


  1. TAKES NOTE WITH SATISFACTION of the Secretary-General’s Report contained in Document CM/1699 (LV);


  1. EXPRESSES ITS GRATITUDE to the Government and people of the Kingdom of Swaziland for the excellent facilities that led to the success Of the meeting;


  1. ENDORSES the resolutions contained in the Report;


  1. EXTENDS ITS APPRECIATION to the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the World Bank, FAO, ALERT, Confederation of African Medical Associations (CAMAS), the Global Program on AIDS, for the technical assistance they rendered to facilitate The preparations for the meeting;


  1. CALLS UPON the OAU Member States to take the necessary measures for the implementation of the resolutions adopted by the Fourth Ordinary Session of the OAU Conference of African Ministers of Health.
