Decision on the African Council for Sustainable Development (ACOSHED)


DECISION ON THE AFRICAN COUNCIL FOR
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (ACOSHED)

The Executive Council:

  1. TAKES NOTE of the Report;

  2. WELCOMES the creation of the African Council for Sustainable Development and NOTES WITH APPRECIATION that the Pan-African Organization has already established focal points in Member States to foster the realization of its goals and its objectives;

  3. RECOGNIZES the important roles which the Organization plays in fostering African ownership of health policies and service delivery reforms as well as in promoting sustainable health development in Africa;

  4. ALSO WELCOMES the convening of ACOSHED First General Assembly in Abuja 21 to 24 July 2003, the main objective of which is to broaden the debate on health policy and services delivery reforms in Africa within the overall framework established by the African Union in the health component of the New Partnership of the African Development (NEPAD) and the Conference on Security, Stability, Development and Cooperation in Africa (CSSDCA) and REQUESTS Member States and the AU Commission to actively participate at the said Assembly;

  5. ENCOURAGES Member States which have not yet done so, to facilitate the opening up of ACOSHED Chapters in their respective countries so as to ensure that the benefits of ACOSHED in the African health sector are realized and sustained.
