DECISION ON THE AMENDMENT OF ARTICLE 37 (1) OF THE AFRICAN
CHARTER ON THE RIGHTS AND WELFARE OF THE CHILD

The Assembly,

  1. TAKES NOTE of the Report on the Implementation of Previous Decisions and the recommendations of the Executive Council on the implementation of Assembly decision Assembly/AU/Dec. 528 (XXIII) concerning the amendment of article 37 (1) of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child;

  2. ADOPTS the amendment to Article 37 (1) of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child as follows:

The members of the Committee shall be elected for a term of five years and may be re-elected only once. However, the term of four of the members elected at the first election shall expire after two years and the term of six others, after four years.

  1. DECIDES that the amendment will enter into force upon its adoption.
