DECISION ON THE SPECIAL EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE
FUND FOR DROUGHT AND FAMINE IN AFRICA

Council:

  1. TAKES NOTE of the Report;

  2. APPROVES the recommendations of the 25th Ordinary Session of the Policy Committee for the proper management of the Fund;

  3. ALSO APPROVES the setting up of a Sub-Committee to examine the possibility of expanding the activities of the Fund to cover other natural calamities;

  4. REQUESTS Member States which have received assistance from the Fund to submit, as a matter of urgency, their project implementation reports to enable the Secretariat undertake an evaluation thereof;

  5. COMMENDS Member States who have made voluntary contributions and those who have honoured their commitments to the Special Emergency Assistance Fund;

  6. REITERATES ITS APPEAL to Member States and the international community to provide financial, technical and material support to the Special Fund.
