DECISION ON THE AFRICAN DIASPORA SUMMIT

The Assembly:
TAKES NOTE of the Activity Report of the Commission on the progress made so far in the preparation for the African Diaspora Summit scheduled to be held in South Africa in 2009;
ALSO TAKES NOTE of the outcome of the Technical Workshop held in Sun City, South Africa, from 27 to 29 August 2008 which provides for a suitable platform for consensus-building as part of the processes of the preparation for the Summit;
FURTHER TAKES NOTE of the postponement of the African Diaspora Summit and URGES the Commission and the Government of South Africa to continue their close collaboration in order to set a new date for the Summit and ensure its successful conduct;
REQUESTS Member States, leaders of the Caribbean Community and South America as well as all other States with a significant African Diaspora population to continue to support and participate in the process leading up to the African Diaspora Summit;
FURTHER REQUESTS the Commission to ensure that the process of organizing Regional Consultative Conferences (RCCs) continues as part of the Implementation Plan, to include the African Diaspora in the Gulf, the Middle East, Oceania, and other parts of the world where they have not been held.
