Council:

DECISION ON THE SITUATION IN ANGOLA -



  1. TAKES NOTE of the Report of the Secretary-General;


  1. EXPRESSES ITS GRAVE CONCERN over the delays in implementing the last phase of the Lusaka Protocol;

  2. URGES UNITA to ensure the full and unconditional demilitarization of its forces;


  1. URGES the UN Security Council to adopt appropriate additional measures required in order to compel UNITA to comply with its commitments under the Lusaka Protocol;

  2. REQUESTS the OAU Secretary-General to ensure that measures adopted by the UN Security Council under Resolution 1135/97 are disseminated to Member States of the OAU; and to monitor their implementation;

  3. APPEALS to the International Community to render the necessary humanitari an and economic assistance for the reconstruction of Angola, especially the rehabilitation of infrastructures destroyed during the war and the rebuilding of the country as well as demining activities.
