Council:

WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION

1. TAKES NOTE of the request presented on the above item;

2. URGES Member States to recognize the vital importance of water and to promote genuine regional and continental cooperation that will ensure effective management of water resources for the benefit of all;

3. CALLS ON Member States to exert more efforts to provide themselves not only with sufficient water, but also safe drinking water for use by their populations;

4. FURTHER APPEALS to Member States to participate massively and actively in the next African Consultative Forum on this issue scheduled for November 1998;

5. CALLS ON the Secretary-General in collaboration with UNEP, ECA, WHO, WMO and every other concerned institution to take all necessary steps to participate actively in the organization and proceedings of the Forum.
