DECISION ON THE REPORT OF THE THIRD SESSION OF THE AU
CONFERENCE OF MINISTERS OF HEALTH, JOHANNESBURG,
SOUTH AFRICA, 9 - 13 APRIL, 2007 - DOC.EX.CL/354 (XI)
The Executive Council:
1. TAKES NOTE of the Report of the Third Session of the AU Conference of Ministers of Health;
2. REAFFIRMS the importance of health in the promotion of socioeconomic development in Africa;
3. ENDORSES the Johannesburg Declaration of the Third Session of the AU Conference of Ministers of HealthI;
4. ALSO ENDORSES the Africa Health Strategy as a framework within which Member States should address the health challenges facing the continent;
5. FURTHER ENDORSES
a) The Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan for Africa;
b) The Plan of Action on Violence Prevention in Africa;
c) The Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism for the Outcomes of the May 2006 Abuja Special Summit on HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria.
6. URGES Member States, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, to implement these commitments and report to the Commission;
7. REQUESTS the Commission in collaboration with Regional Economic Communities and other partners, to follow-up and coordinate the implementation of the recommendations contained in the report as well as all the documents adopted at the Conference;
8. FURTHER REQUESTS the Commission to submit a status report regularly on the implementation of the outcomes and recommendations of the Conference to Council.
