DECISION ON THE ACTIVITY REPORT OF THE AFRICAN
COURT ON HUMAN AND PEOPLES’ RIGHTS

The Executive Council:

1. TAKES NOTE of the Activity Report of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights for the year 2008;

2. CONGRATULATES the Court on the progress achieved in the discharge of its mission;

3. RECALLS its Decision EX.CL/Dec.449 (XIII) which, among others, “authorizes the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights to submit in 2009 a new structure of the Registry and new proposals concerning the status of the Judges”;

4. REQUESTS the Permanent Representatives’ Committee to examine the Court’s proposals on the new structure of the Court Registry and on the status of the Judges, and put forward recommendations thereon for the consideration of the Executive Council at its next Session;

5. URGES Members States that have not already done so, to ratify the Protocol establishing the Court and to issue the statement accepting the competence of the Court to hear cases from individuals and non-governmental organisations in accordance with the provisions of the Protocol.
