DECISION ON PAU’S CONTRIBUTION TO AFRICAN
TRANSBOUNDARY DESERTIFICATION

CONTROL PROJECTS

Council:

  1. TAKES NOTE of the Report on the implementation of the Protocol Agreement with the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification;

  2. EXPRESSES SATISFACTION AT the proper utilization of the subvention of US $300,000 granted in accordance with decision CM/Dec.426 (LXVIII), adopted by the 68th Ordinary Session of Council held in Burkina Faso in July 1998;

  3. AUTHORIZES the Secretary General, in close cooperation with the Management Committee of the Fund, to make a fresh contribution from the Special Emergency Assistance Fund for Drought and Famine in Africa towards the pursuit of on-going activities in the concerned African countries;

  4. WELCOMES the fact that all African countries have ratified the Convention and embarked upon the various stages of its implementation;

  5. INVITES developed countries, and multilateral and donor institutions to provide the necessary support to countries affected by drought and desertification, particularly African countries, for the successful implementation of the Convention.
