Decision on the Report of the Sixth Session of the Conference of African Union Ministers of Health and Report of the Fifth Meeting of the African Task Force on Food and Nutrition Development

DECISION ON THE REPORT OF THE SIXTH SESSION OF THE CONFERENCE OF
AFRICAN UNION MINISTERS OF HEALTH AND REPORT OF THE FIFTH MEETING
OF THE AFRICAN TASK FORCE ON FOOD AND NUTRITION DEVELOPMENT

The Executive Council,

1. TAKES NOTE of the Reports of the Sixth Ordinary Session of the Conference of African Union of Ministers of Health (CAMH6), held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 22 to 26 April 2013; and the Fifth Meeting of the African Task Force on Food and Nutrition Development in Africa (ATFFND) that took place in Maseru, Lesotho from 29 to 30 July 2013 and of the recommendations contained therein, as well as the Addis Ababa Declaration on the Outcome of the CAMH6 and ENDORSES the recommendations of the Sixth Session of CAMH and the Fifth Meeting of the ATFFND;

2. ADOPTS the Continental Framework on the Control and Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in Africa by 2020 and COMMITS to using the Framework for developing and revising national plans, as appropriate;

3. CALLS UPON all partners to support initiatives on mitigation of Non- Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and NTDs in Africa and together with the RECs, Regional Health Organizations, WHO and other relevant partners to develop and implement Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Strategy for the Continental Framework on the Control and Elimination of NTDs in Africa by 2020, including the framework convention on Tobacco control;

4. ENDORSES His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho as Champion for Nutrition in Africa to advocate for the child under nutrition and mechanism to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness on nutrition interventions;

5. RECOMMENDS to the Assembly for endorsement of the proposal to organize a joint meeting of African Union Ministers of Health and WHO and REQUESTS the African Union Commission to work out the modality of the biennial joint meeting with a view to strengthen coordination, avoid duplication and create synergies;

6. REQUESTS the Commission to follow-up on the implementation of the outcomes of the Sixth Session of the African Union Conference of Ministers of Health and Fifth Meeting of the ATFFND and report thereon to the Executive Council.
