Lesotho: New judgment reinstates Mosito

THE decision, delivered on Friday morning by the highest court in Lesotho, was entirely predictable given the tone of questioning and discussion in court during the hearing earlier in the week.

Lesotho’s Court of Appeal has not been operating for some time as the judicial crisis surrounding the head of that court has played out, but five acting judges, headed by former Zambian judge, Philip Musonda, were appointed to hear this matter.

Lesotho: Authorities must ensure the Independence of the Judiciary and Reopen the Court of Appeal

The Africa Judges and Jurists Forum (AJJF) and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) today called on the authorities in Lesotho to guarantee the independence of the judiciary and to immediately take all legal and administrative measures necessary to make the Court of Appeal function as an independent and impartial highest judicial authority for the country. The call came as the AJJF and ICJ Conclude a 5 Day Fact Finding Mission to Lesotho which took place from 7 May to 12 May 2018.
