RESOLUTION ON ANGOLA



The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its 27th Ordinary Session in Port Louis, Mauritius, from 24 June to 3 July 1976;


Recalling Resolution CM/Res. 454 (XXVI) of the 26th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers, especially items 3 and 4;


Desirous of ensuring scrupulous respect for the principles and objectives of the Charter of the Organization of African Unity as stipulated in articles II and III in particular;


Considering that is a sacred duty for the international community and especially for the Member States of the OAU to help the People’s Republic of Angola to consolidate her independence, sovereignty and safeguard her territorial integrity, in accordance with the provisions Article 2 of the U.N. Charter;


  1. DENOUNCES the continuation of the campaign of defamation and acts of hostility against the People’s Republic of Angola;


  1. CONDEMS the recruitment and training of mercenaries charged to disturb the stability of the Government of the People’s Republic of Angola and with in tent to overthrow by brutal force the freely established regime of the People of Angola;


  1. INVITES all Member States of the OAU, who have not yet done so, to stop all aid and assistance to individuals or groups of individuals, whose activities are directed against the peace and internal and external security of the People’s Republic of Angola and, who by so doing, hamper the liberation struggle in Southern Africa;


  1. REAFFIRMS its support for the inalienable rights of the People’s Republic of Angola to have the political regime of her choice and solicit all assistance in the exercise of her sovereignty;

  1. CALLS ON Member States to place at the Disposal of the People’s Republic of Angola all political, diplomatic, financial, material and military resources to make it possible for her to face any external aggression especially that of the apartheid regime of South Africa;


  1. REQUESTS the Current Chairman and the Administrative Secretary General of the OAU to ensure that the present resolution is strictly applied.
