RESOLUTION ON THE CANDIDATURES OF ALGERIA AND SENEGAL TO THE SECURITY COUNCIL


The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its Eight Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 27 February to 4 March 1967,


Having examined the communications received from the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Algeria and Senegal concerning the candidatures of their countries for the two seats that will be left vacant by the African Members leaving the Security Council, namely Mali and Nigeria,


Having observed likewise the absence of candidatures from any other African countries for the two seats in question,


Considering the determination of Member States of the Organization always to present a united front concerning candidatures for the various international agencies,


  1. DECIDES unanimously to recommend Member States to support the candidatures of Algeria and Senegal for these two seats;


  1. EMPOWERS the African Group at the United Nations to undertake all necessary steps to achieve this aim.
