RESOLUTION ON PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF NUTRITIONAL STATUS IN MEMBER STATES

The Educational, Scientific, Cultural and Health Commission of the OAU meeting in its Third Ordinary Session in Reduit. Mauritius, from December 10 to 14, 1973,

HAVING discussed document ESCHC/98 (III) on Assessment of Nutritional Status of Member States,

AWARE of the impact of malnutrition on the socio economic conditions and of the progress achieved by Member States in tackling this problem;

DESIROUS that malnutrition should no longer exist in Africa:

ADOPTS Document ESCHC 98 (III);

URGES Member States to establish a system of National Food Balance Sheets and communicate their results to OAU Secretariat;

FURTHER URGES Member States to carry out dietary surveys and also communicate the results to OAU Secretariat.
