DECISION ON THE DRAFT PROTOCOL ON RELATIONS BETWEEN
THE AU AND THE REGIONAL ECONOMIC COMMUNITIES

The Executive Council:

  1. TAKES NOTE of the draft Protocol;

  2. RECOGNIZES that the said Protocol was considered and adopted by the Commission and the RECs at their 2ld Coordination Committee meeting held in Addis Ababa in June 2004;

  3. REQUESTS the Commission to submit the Protocol to the PRC and legal experts from Member States for consideration;

  4. FURTHER REQUESTS the Commission to submit the Protocol to the 7th Ordinary Session of Council in July 2005;

  5. REQUESTS ALSO the Chairperson of the Commission to carry out a study on the categorization of African Regional Institutions with the view to rationalize the institutional framework of the Union.
