DECISION ON THE 20™ ORDINARY SESSION OF THE CONFERENCE
OF AU MINISTERS OF INDUSTRY (CAMI XX)

The Executive Council,

1. TAKES NOTE of the Report and ENDORSES the Nairobi Declaration of the 20th Ordinary Session of the Conference of AU Ministers of Industry (CAMI XX) on the theme of Accelerating Industrialisation for Africa within the Post 2015 Development Agenda which was held in Nairobi, Kenya on 13-14 June 2013;

2. DIRECTS the Commission, in collaboration with UNIDO, UNECA and AfDB to ensure that the African Industrialization is included in the Post 2015 Development Agenda for fostering African Structural Transformation;

3. REQUESTS the Commission in collaboration with the NEPAD Planning and Coordination Agency, and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to harmonize and coordinate the formulation and implementation of development goals in the area of structural transformation and sustainable economic growth stimulated by industrialization;

4. FURTHER REQUESTS the Commission to strengthen South - South Industrial Cooperation (SSIC), as an important element of International Cooperation that offers visible and viable opportunities for African countries in their individual and collective pursuit of sustainable industrial growth, structural change and economic diversification;

5. ENCOURAGES the Commission, working with Regional Economic Communities (RECs) UNIDO, UNECA and the private sector to implement all Industry Initiatives such as Accelerating Industrial Development of Africa (AIDA) and the African Mining Vision AMV within the framework of boosting intra African Trade and the realization of the Continental Free Trade Area;

6. RECOGNISES the importance of industrialization, particularly value addition as a means of creating employment and the consequent need for African Governments to create an enabling environment for the growth of Small and Medium Industries and Enterprises; as well as to collaborate with the private sector to mobilize resources for industrial financing;

7. DIRECTS the Commission, UNECA and AfDB to develop and implement concrete mechanisms for mobilizing additional resources dedicated to Industrialization.

8. STRESSES the need to enhance the capacity of the Department of Trade and Industry in terms of staffing and relevant expertise to enable it deliver on its programmes and REQUESTS the Commission to submit appropriate recommendations to the decision policy organs for consideration within the overall restructuring of the AU Commission.
